Not so long ago (in 2006) I could not run far as much as 1km
but on April 5, @ 1am I will race my 1st UltraMarathon
1st Bataan Death March 102Km Ultramarathon
http://bataan102.com/race-details/

It all started on Nov 08 for my 1st Marathon (Shanghai Marathon). Since then I was able to complete & finish 3 International marathons in 3 consecutive months. (SC Singapore Dec08 & SC Hongkong Feb09).
Lesson I Learned
– Starting too fast early in the race sores my knees much compared to a balanced running
– lack of steep hill trainings hits hard on my achilles heel & tendons
– lack of nutrient & salt causes my legs to cramp
– plenty of sleep/rest is crucial 1 week before the race.
– i urinate & pespire more than i drink
– overestimate the effort you need on speed & underestimate timing to complete your goal
– you don’t need to exert more effort in uphill unless you are trained to do so.
– I don’t have enough Strengthening and Stretching exercises
– shades aren’t fit for race
– I can never be well dressed for a perfect photo with a journalist 😉

I did something to correct my mistakes though.. by researching on proper diet and nutrient intake plus effective training exercises

Now help me, ‘what is the right Strategy to win this Ultra Challenge…
Option 1 – Finish the Race Safely. Run 20km Intervals @ 10km/hr speed in-between to rest & recover – Est Time Completion 12.5 hrs Sub 13 hrs!
Option 2 – Risk Taking, Give My Best Shot. I can sustain & had tested running @14-15km/hr for 30km but i know, there is a risk my wheels may possibly explode and tear my limits – but if successful my Est Time Completion for the race will be ~ 8-9 hours. BIG Milestone
Option 3 – Have Fun and Just Finish the race at max limit of 18 hrs. This im sure i can do.

So My Dear Friends, what are your advices? What predictions do you have for me?
This is my own version of surviving in this current crisis.
Life is like a race…there’s an up and down but the courage to continue counts more 😉
I am sharing this to give me motivation to look ahead at the finish line, imagining your virtual spirit cheering me up in admiration …he he
